Community standards and housing conduct
Last updated October 2, 2026
An adult, platonic community
Roost is for people 18 and older seeking roommates. Use truthful account and housing information and only post content you own or have permission to share. Do not impersonate others, operate fraudulent accounts, solicit sexual services or use the service for unrelated advertising.
Prohibited content and conduct
Do not post threats, harassment, hate speech, sexual exploitation, pornography, nonconsensual intimate images, personal information about others without permission, scams, malware or content that infringes intellectual property. Do not use Roost to collect deposits, rent, fees or financial credentials. Never request identity documents or verification codes from another member.
Fair housing
Do not publish discriminatory housing advertisements or use Roost to unlawfully exclude people on grounds protected by federal, state or local law, including race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability or familial status. Local protections may be broader. Shared-living situations can raise specific legal questions; do not assume a roommate preference creates an exemption for a public advertisement. Roost does not determine whether an exemption applies. Describe the home and practical living arrangements accurately and seek qualified advice when needed.
Report, block and appeal
Use Report or Block on a profile or chat, or email info@roostmate.app with enough detail to locate the content. Report urgent threats to emergency services; Roost is not an emergency response service. We may restrict content, suspend or remove accounts, investigate reports and preserve relevant safety records. Automated text screening refuses slurs, threats, harassment, sexual content and scams, and keeps public profile text free of profanity. It is limited and does not catch everything; reports are reviewed by people. Repeated attempts to post refused text may be flagged for review. Contact info@roostmate.app to ask us to review a moderation decision. We may limit details to protect privacy and safety.
Copyright concerns
Email info@roostmate.app to report suspected infringement. Identify the work, the specific Roost content and where to find it, your contact details, and why you are entitled to report it. Do not submit false reports. Repeated infringement can lead to termination. This general reporting channel does not represent that Roost has registered a DMCA designated agent; any formal statutory agent process must use the registered agent details when published.
Meeting and housing safety
Phone or legacy email verification proves control of a contact channel only. Compatibility is an estimate, not a background check or promise of safety. Meet in a public place, tell someone your plans, independently verify the home and the authority of anyone offering it, and use an appropriate written lease or roommate agreement. See /safety for more guidance.
